The Russian Ministry of Defence said on Sunday that "Air defense destroyed four Ukrainian drones over the territory of the Bryansk, Smolensk, and Tula regions." Additionally, Russia announced that several drones were shot down over the Moscow region.

Furthermore, the Russian military reported successfully downing two Ukrainian missiles that were targeting Russia over the Sea of Azov, which lies between the two nations.

In response, Ukraine revealed that its air defense had managed to bring down eight out of the nine drones that invaded their airspace on Sunday.

According to Ukraine, on Saturday, Moscow initiated an attack by sending 75 drones into the country, with the main target being the capital. This incident occurred on the same day that Ukraine commemorated the Holodomor, a tragedy during the Stalin era that resulted in the deaths of millions of Ukrainians through artificial famine.

Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, condemned the attack as an intentional act of terror, expressing that the Russian leadership takes pride in their ability to cause harm and destruction.

In response to ongoing drone attacks from Russia, Ukraine has been conducting counteroffensives for several months, targeting regions within Russia as well as the annexed Crimean Peninsula, in an effort to push back Russian forces.

The annexation of Crimea by Russia, along with their support of separatists in eastern Ukraine, occurred after the pro-Moscow government of President Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown in 2014 following a popular uprising.
